The key to whether a place is included or excluded from Schedule 7 is its cultural heritage significance. A building, site or place is deemed to have cultural heritage significance if it meets one or more of the following criteria:
It is important in demonstrating the evolution or pattern of Townsville’s history.
It demonstrates rare, uncommon or endangered aspects of Townsville’s cultural heritage.
It has potential to yield information that will contribute to the knowledge and understanding of Townsville’s history.
It is important in demonstrating the principal characteristics of a particular class or classes of cultural places.
It is important because of its aesthetic significance.
It is important in demonstrating a high degree of creative or technological achievement at a particular period.
It has a strong or special association with the life or work of a particular community or cultural group for social, cultural or spiritual reasons.
It has a special association with the life or work of a particular person, group or organisation of importance in the city’s or local area’s history.
It was constructed prior to 1910.
Anyone, including individuals, community groups and government departments can nominate a place for entry into Schedule 7 by completing and submitting a nomination form to Council.
